Shell Melina S Oil

Multi-purpose marine diesel engine oil

Shell Melina S Oil is a premium performance 5 TBN lubricant based on a blend of highly refined high viscosity index mineral oils and a carefully balanced selection of additives incorporating Shell’s advanced salicylate technology.

It is one of a family of low speed diesel engine lubricants designed to provide the highest levels of machinery protection in today’s highly rated marine engines.

Applications

   Marine low-speed diesel engine crankcase and piston cooling systems

   Turbochargers

   Geared transmissions

   Oil-lubricated stern-tubes

   Deck machinery

   Other ancillary equipment requiring an SAE 30 oil

N.B.  Shell Melina S Oil is not recommended for trunk-piston engines.  Where a multi-purpose oil suitable for such engines is needed, Shell Melina Oil should be used.

*Oil is circulated through an Alfa-Laval centrifuge at 85°C.  Water at 95°C is injected to maintain a level of 5% vol. for 25 passes (2 hours).  The water is then switched off; a further 10 dry passes complete the test.

Shell Melina S Oil is approved by all major low speed diesel engine manufacturers.

Purification

Normal purification equipment and practices for crankcase lubricants should be used to ensure that Shell Melina S Oil does not become over burdened with contaminants and water.  Water washing when centrifuging is completely unnecessary as a normal practice because the formulation gives adequate protection against contaminant acids.
