Shell Argina X Oil

Medium speed diesel engines

Shell Argina X Oil is a premium quality lubricant having all the excellent performance characteristics of Shell Argina Oil T but with a higher TBN level of 40 mg KOH/g

It is designed, specifically, for medium speed diesel engines burning residual fuels where low lubricating oil consumption and/or high sulphur levels in fuels create a need for additional alkalinity.  This is required to maintain the minimum equilibrium TBN levels prescribed by engine manufacturers to ensure acceptable cylinder and piston ring wear

Performance

The development of more powerful and efficient diesel engines, and the widespread use of poor quality fuels, impose increased demands upon the lubricant.  Those demands are fully met by Shell Argina T Oil under most circumstances.  However, under the more severe conditions imposed by unusually low oil consumption, very high sulphur fuel or prolonged cold running, the equilibrium TBN level of the oil charge may drop below the manufacturer’s recommended minimum.  If this condition is not corrected undue cylinder and piston ring wear may result.  Shell Argina X Oil is designed to combat these conditions.  It shares all the characteristics which have made Shell Argina T Oil the leader in its class, but has additional TBN reserves.

Purification

Normal purification equipment and practices for crankcase lubricants should be used to ensure that Shell Argina X oil does not become over burdened with contaminants and water.  With centrifugal purification, water washing is unnecessary as a normal practice since the balanced formulation gives adequate protection against contaminant acids

These characteristics are typical of current production.  Whilst future production will conform to Shell’s specification variations in these characteristics may occur.

Health & Safety

Shell Argina X Oil is unlikely to present any significant health or safety hazard when properly used in the recommended application, and good standards of industrial and personal hygiene are maintained.

Avoid contact with skin.  Use impervious gloves with used oil.  After skin contact, wash immediately with soap and water.
