دو شرکت اکسان و موبیل در سال ۱۹۹۸ قراردادی به ارزش ۷۳ $ میلیارد دلار، برای ادغام، با یکدیگر امضا کردند، که طی آن، شرکت «اکسان‌موبیل» تشکیل شد.این ادغام، از این جهت در آمریکا منحصربه‌فرد بود، که این دو شرکت، قبلاً جزو یک کمپانی بودند و حدود یک قرن قبل، به‌دلیل قوانین دولتی، از هم جدا شده بودند. این ادغام، بزرگ‌ترین ادغام در تاریخ ایالات متحده آمریکا محسوب می‌شود.اکسان‌موبیل، در سال ۲۰۰۰ یک پالایشگاه در بنیسیا، کالیفرنیا را فروخت، همچنین ۳۴۰ جایگاه پمپ بنزین خود، با نام «اکسان» را، به شرکت «والرو انرجی» واگذار نمود؛ ولی در عوض، به تولید و عرضه محصولات نفتی، در بیش از ۷۰۰ جایگاه «موبیل» در کالیفرنیا پرداخت.در سال ۲۰۰۵ قیمت سهام اکسان‌موبیل، به موازات افزایش قیمت نفت، بالا رفت و سهام جنرال الکتریک، که بیشترین سرمایه را تا آن زمان داشت نیز، پشت سر گذاشت. در پایان آن سال نیز، رکورد سود سالانه را، با سود ۳۶ $ میلیارد دلاری شکست.^[۱۳][۱۴]اکسان‌موبیل، در سال ۲۰۰۸ خروج خود را از بازار خرده‌فروشی نفتی، به دلیل مشکلات آن، اعلام نمود، که این امر به تدریج شرکت را از عرضه مستقیم دور می‌کند و ۸۲۰ جایگاه این شرکت و حدود ۱۴۰۰ جایگاه دیگر در ایالات متحده آمریکا را، تحت تأثیر قرار می‌دهد. البته جایگاه‌های اکسان و موبیل کماکان به فعالیت خود ادامه می‌دهند و این نام، تحت امتیاز شرکت اکسان‌موبیل، به آن‌ها داده شده است.

Primary Applications
SPARTAN EP gear oils are suitable for heavily
loaded gear sets and gears that are subject to
shock loading. All grades meet the European
FZG load limit of 13 stages pass and can be
safely used in most imported equipment. Check
manufacturers’ recommendations at all times,
and consult Esso Technical Services when in
doubt.
Today’s SPARTAN EP line possesses
outstanding Timken EP values. All grades have
a minimum of 60 lb. (27kg) OK limit, thereby
meeting AGMA 9005 and US Steel 224
requirements. SPARTAN EP oils are also
suitable for use in both plain and anti-friction
bearings and in circulating lubrication systems.
SPARTAN EP gears oils are also suitable for
spray or mist lubrication systems where leadcompounded
lubricants should not be
recommended. However, where stray mist must
be minimized, special mist oils should be
considered such as ENMIST and Mobil Mist
oils.
SPARTAN EP ALL SEASON oil is formulated
for use indoors or outdoors over a wide range of
temperatures. Due to its high viscosity index, it
is ideally suited for year-round applications.
